About Us
Founded in Livonia, Luigi’s Trattoria and Pizzeria is the realization of owner Filippo Mainella’s lifelong dream to share his family’s authentic Italian cuisine with the world. Driven by his passion for his heritage and love for traditional Italian dishes, Filippo opened Luigi’s in 2000 with his sons Luigi, Sergio, and Tommaso. Initially launched as Luigi’s Pizza and Subs, the restaurant specialized in hand-tossed, stone-baked pizzas.
In 2012, Luigi’s Pizza and Subs underwent renovations and transformed into Luigi’s Trattoria and Pizzeria, a full-service restaurant and bar with a refined menu featuring an array of specialty dishes. To accommodate growing demand, Luigi’s underwent another renovation in 2019 to upgrade the kitchen. Then, in 2024, Luigi's opened their second location in Northville, Luigi's Italian Carryout.
Many of our recipes at Luigi’s have been cherished through three generations. Our homemade meat sauce, lasagna, and cannoli cream, inspired by Filippo’s mother, Filomena, have become beloved customer favorites. Indulge in our signature dishes, like gemelli with norcina sauce, as all our pastas, soups, and sauces are made fresh from scratch in-house. We believe that food is an expression of love and brings families together.
